The short version
StartHim is a free fantasy football start/sit voting app. We collect only what we need to run it: the account details you provide or a sign-in provider shares, the questions, picks, and comments you post, and basic technical logs and usage information. We do not sell your information, and we do not run ads.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Google on the website or in a supported app, Google shares your name, email address, and profile image with us. Sign in with Apple supplies an account identifier and email address, which may be an Apple relay address, and your name when provided. Email/password registration collects your email address, display name, and password; we store a salted password hash rather than the password itself. We use these details to create your StartHim profile and authenticate you. Signing in is optional for browsing questions, results, rules, and the leaderboard.
Content you create
Questions you ask, picks you make, comments and reactions you post, friends you add, and your pick record are stored with your account. Open picks stay private to the person who made them until voting locks at kickoff. After that, picks are public by design so every scored call goes on the record.
Email preferences
Weekly performance recaps are enabled by default. We store your email preferences and send recaps through Resend. You can turn them off at any time in Settings.
Technical information
Like most services, our servers record standard request logs such as IP address, browser or device type, and the pages or API endpoints requested. We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager on the website and Firebase Analytics with Google Tag Manager in updated mobile apps to understand usage, including page or screen views, sign-ins, and successful picks and questions. Analytics may collect browser or app-instance identifiers, device and app information, and interaction events. We do not send your name, email address, password, comments, or individual player selections as analytics event fields. Advertising personalization is disabled in the mobile analytics configuration.
The mobile apps
The StartHim apps for iOS and Android talk to the same servers as starthim.com. The apps do not access your contacts, photos, or precise location. They send requests to load public questions, results, and community profiles. Updated apps also send usage analytics, including for visitors who are not signed in. Firebase uses an app-instance identifier to distinguish installations; StartHim does not attach your account ID to analytics events.
When you sign in, the app stores your session token in secure device storage and sends it to StartHim to authenticate requests. Your saved account picks and questions use the same account as the website. Signing out removes the local token and revokes the current server session.
How we use information
- To run the service: showing questions, recording picks, scoring results, and ranking the leaderboard.
- To keep your account secure and your session signed in.
- To send the emails you have asked for.
- To understand aggregate usage and fix problems.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that run StartHim: hosting and database providers (Vercel and Turso), Google for sign-in and website and app analytics, Apple for Sign in with Apple, and Resend for email. We also fetch public football data from nflverse, FantasyPros, and Open-Meteo; those requests do not include your personal information. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with advertisers.
Your choices
- You can use StartHim without signing in.
- You can sign out from Settings on the website or Profile in the mobile app, which revokes the current session.
- You can turn email recaps off in Settings.
- To delete your account and the content tied to it, email privacy@starthim.com from the address on your account. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.
Data retention
Account data and content stay in our database until you ask us to delete them. Server logs are kept for a limited time for security and debugging and then discarded.
Children
StartHim is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, note it on the site.
